FSU Rams Softball Soars Past Fitchburg State 8-7 and 12-4

FRAMINGHAM, MA -- The Framingham State University softball team belted a combined 22 hits including a pair of home runs as the Rams swept Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader at Maple Street Field. The Rams walked off with an 8-7 victory in the opener before soaring to a 12-4 six inning victory in game two.

In the opener, the Rams grabbed the early lead on a two run home run to left center off the bat of Kirsten Dick.
The Falcons plated four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-2 advantage. Morgan Cormier launched a solo homer to left and the Falcons proceeded to load the bases with no outs. Molly Grass followed with an RBI fielder’s choice and an infield single and error allowed the final two runs to score.

The Rams got a run back in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Zoe Smyth and took the lead 5-4 in the bottom of the third on a two run double to right from Payton Ceglarski.

The Rams pushed the lead to 7-4 on a Grace Swanson RBI single and a bases loaded hit by pitch of Dick.

The Falcons closed the gap to one, 7-6, in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Dana Cisowski and a failed pickoff attempt at third.

A two out RBI single off the bat off Laura Kirkconnell in the top of the seventh tied the game at 7-7.

The Rams received a one out triple from Dick in the top of the seventh. Laela Pepin delivered a sacrifice fly to center plating Dick with the winning run.

Shannon Ward earned the victory in the circle for the Rams tossing two innings in relief, while Taylor Colvin took the loss going six and two thirds for the Falcons.

In game two, the Rams grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two run single from Camille Desrochers and Dick double.

The Falcons got on the board in the top of third as they capitalized on a pair of errors to score two runs.
In the top of the fourth a Kirkconnell RBI single tied the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the frame, the Rams plated three runs on RBI singles from Swanson, Desrochers and Dick to take a 6-3 lead.

Three in the bottom of the fifth on a Smyth three run shot to left put the Rams up 9-3.

The Falcons got a run in the top of the sixth. With runners on the corners and no outs, Sarah Cahill hit a fly ball to right scoring the run from third, but the runner was caught off first for the double play allowing the Rams to work out of the inning.

The Rams added three more in the bottom of the sixth to secure the run shortened victory. Mercedes Jimenez doubled in a pair and Ward singled up the middle plating the final run.

Ward earned the victory in the circle for the Rams going six innings allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits with six strikeouts.

Cahill took the loss for the Falcons going three and two thirds allowing six earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.
