Sannicandro Encourages High-Schoolers to Go Public!
FRAMINGHAM, MA - Representative Tom Sannicandro, House Chair of the Joint Committee on Higher Education, is hosting Go Public!, an event geared toward students and parents interested in learning more about what public universities and colleges offer. Go Public! will take place Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Framingham High School, 115 "A" Street, Framingham, MA.
"We have a terrific public higher education system in Massachusetts," Rep. Sannicandro said. "This event will show our young people and their families how much our public universities can offer."
Go Public! will focus on helping students understand the transition to higher ed while also providing resources for parents. There will be three college students from UMass-Dartmouth, Salem State, and Mass Bay, speaking about dorm life, campus life, athletics, academics, clubs, activities, and what life is like at a public university. Parents and students can also ask questions of the administrators and President Flanagan about academic and admissions standards, how to finance a college education, and post-collegiate professional opportunities.
"Higher education is the gateway to the job market," said Rep. Sannicandro who is presenting the informational forum said. "We want college to be as accessible as possible so we're producing the best talent and securing our economic future."
The event will focus on community colleges, the UMass system, and Massachusetts' other state universities. Rep. Sannicandro is encouraging anyone interested in pursuing a public university education to attend.
