Downtown Framingham

Framingham, MA - The Hub of the Universe?

In the 1800's, railroad handbills were printed to promote South Framingham, proclaiming, "If Not the Hub of the Universe -- the hub of a Territory containing 2,000,000 people within a radius of thirty miles".

Framingham, MA - 1800's handbill showing six rail lines converging in South Framingham's train station.

Two-hundred years later, much of this rail hub is still present in Downtown Framingham.

The line which runs east to west from Worcester to Boston is still active with Amtrak Commuter Rail and MBTA trains running many times each day.

Although no other lines still carry passengers, The Pacific Railroad Line which runs northwest to southeast still carries freight into and out of Framingham.
