This workshop provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Special Education Law and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Free "Story Play" Class for Children 18mos - 3 y.o.
The Performing Arts Center of MetroWest (PAC) is offering a free introductory "Story Play" Class on Wednesday, October 6, at 10:00 am, at their location at 140 Pearl Street in Downtown Framingham. This class is for children ages 18 months-3 years old, accompanied by an adult. A wonderfully interactive class for toddlers and their parents or guardians.Each session of this interactive class is based on a book and includes stuffed animal play, singing, dancing, instrument playing and make-believe play. The teacher uses music, props and manipulatives to help children experience the theme of the day. Pre-registration for the free class is appreciated, although walk-ins are also welcome. Local History Talk: "A Rite of Return: Serendipity and Historiography in the Recreation of the Life of Henry Knight Dyer (1846-1912), President of the Dennison Mfg. Co."
7:00pm.--Guest Speaker: Mr. Benjamin Feldman, historian and author.The Framingham Public Library and the Framingham History Center are pleased to present this local history talk. Following the discovery of an expense book dated 1870 owned by Henry Knight Dyer, Mr. Feldman conducted extensive research on Dennison's first non-family member president. He chronicles the rise of Dyer from office boy to captaining an enormous international paper products company. Delving into Dyer's personal life, he unravels the mystery surrounding his ostensibly close long-term marriage to Caroline Dyer, and her burial in an unmarked grave hundreds of yards from the Dyer family gravesite. Light the Night Walk
Join the fight against blood cancer by participating in the Light The Night Walk. Light The Night is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to millions of people with cancer. Hosted by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, teams of friends, families and co-workers raise funds for blood cancer research -- which has led or contributed to major advances in cancer treatment for over 60 years. Walkers gather in cities and towns across the U.S. and Canada and walk a two-mile course in twilight, holding twinkling balloons -- white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost. More than a walk, the evening includes music, food and family festivities. Proceeds from Light The Night support LLS's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Work O' the Weavers with Peg Espinola opening
'If I Had A Hammer,' 'Midnight Special,' 'The Sloop John B,' 'Goodnight, Irene,' 'This Land Is Your Land, 'Tzena Tzena,' 'Wimoweh,' 'House Of The Rising Sun,' 'Michael Row The Boat Ashore.' Songs such as these have become part of our collective consciousness. But few recall that these songs were written or first popularized by The Weavers. The seminal link between an obscure past and contemporary culture, The Weavers introduced a stream of authenticity into the current of American popular music that endures to this day. Much of the modern American folk revival rests on the shoulders of an earlier folk revival in the 1930s. Back then, the ravages of the Great Depression had many wondering whether the capitalist system would survive and compelled many to look for viable alternatives. In the process, the era witnessed a burgeoning union movement, an increase in radical politics, and a simultaneous reawakening of interest in American folk music.During this period, both Pete Seeger and Lee Hays cut their musical teeth. Having grown up in the puritanical northeast as the son of a concert violinist and a musicologist, Pete dropped out of Harvard to work with Alan Lomax cataloguing folk music for the Library of Congress. There he vowed not to dig up old songs from one graveyard just to bury them in another. Lomax introduced him to Woody Guthrie and the two roamed the country together learning, singing and writing songs for unions and other groups. With faithful adherence to their original arrangements, we seek to recall the spirit of The Weavers, providing an echo of their music and some insight into their story, one that resonates ever so strongly in these troubled times when an American's right - and indeed, responsibility - to dissent is once again being challenged. It is therefore a distinct privilege for us, and it is with profound pleasure that we present the timeless music and the timely message of 'Work o' The Weavers'.

We're back with a new route and some new stories for our 4th annual Haunted Trolley Tour. Once again, special guests from the Framingham Community Theatre will narrate the spooky legends and ghost stories that abound on the back roads and main thoroughfares of our town. Take a 45 minute trolley ride through Framingham's mysterious past ...if you dare. We'll feature pirates, witches, ghosts and more… Following the tour there will be an exhibition of sites seen along the route with refreshments, fortunes and special "old tyme" activities at the Edgell Library. Veterans Acupuncture Care (VAC)
A local group of volunteer acupuncturists is offering free community acupuncture for Iraq/Afghanistan veterans and their families or those from any past conflicts. The program addresses issues related to post combat stress such as sleep, anxiety, panic or other mood changes. VAC is located at St. Andrew's Church 3 Maple St. Framingham MA.
