Why do we remember what we remember and why do we forget what we forget? Why does it matter? During this series, leading authorities from a variety of disciplines will help answer these questions. They will discuss the mind and memory from his or her unique perspective, representing the fields of history, medical research, psychology and the arts. In addition to fostering new insights into individual memory, the FHC hopes to encourage a dialogue on the importance of collective memory and how we choose to memorialize the past. *** Dr. Sudha Seshadri is a Framingham Heart Study Investigator, Associate Professor at B.U. Rosh HaShanah Services in the Woods (at Nobscot Mountain)
On Thursday, September 29th, 2011 from 9:30a.m. until to 1:00p.m., Ma'yan Tikvah will again celebrate the "High Holidays in the Woods" with morning services on the first day of Rosh HaShanah and on Yom Kippur at the Nobscot Scout Reservation, Nobscot Road, on the Sudbury / Framingham town line. *** All are welcome, including families with children. *** The services will be informal, with a combination of traditional and nontraditional elements. Rosh HaShanah morning services will be held under the trees, or if the weather requires it, under a pavilion in the woods. We will leave from the parking lot at 9:30, and the experience of the High Holidays will begin with the short hike to the site. There will be time to sing, to appreciate the natural world around us, to meditate and pray, to read and discuss the Torah portion to hear the sound of the shofar reverberating through the woods. After the service we will have a pot luck dairy lunch. Yom Kippur services will be held at another location. Details will be sent upon registration. *** Suggested donation for non-members: $54 includes all High Holiday services for 2 people. No one is turned away. Registration is required. *** Questions?
