STATE REPRESENTATIVE SEAT CAUCUS ON SUNDAY

October 19, 2006  (21:10:30 EST)

DEMOCRATS TO HOLD 6TH MIDDLESEX DISTRICT

Framingham MA—The Framingham Democratic Town Committee will be sponsoring a Special Democratic Caucus this Sunday, October 22, 2006 at 4:30 PM at the Cameron Middle School on Elm Street, for the purpose of supporting a candidate for the 6th Middlesex State Representative seat left vacant by the intimely death of Representative Deborah Blumer.

Cheryl Tully Stoll, spokesperson for the Town Committee said, “We are trying to do the most democratic thing possible. We have asked Senator Spilka and Representative Sannicandro to file legislation that would allow for a special election at a later date that would give the electorate a more normal election process and a chance to get to know all of the candidates for the seat from all parties before voting.

However, with the odds of that legislation passing in a timely manner questionable, the Committee has decided to work simultaneously to organize a caucus to allow the Democratic voters of the district input as to who the Democratic Town Committee will support in the November 7th election. The caucus will give the voters an opportunity to learn more about the candidates they will be voting for, and will let the Democratic voters of the district select the candidate that the Democratic Town Committee will officially support as we do after the vote in a primary election.”

The caucus is open to all candidates who have lived in the district for at least one year and are registered Democrats as of today’s state voter registration deadline. All Democratic candidates planning on running as write-ins on the November 7th ballot are encouraged to attend. Interested Democratic candidates should contact Parwez Wahid, Democratic Town Committee Chairman, at 508-561-1975 as soon as possible for more information.

Caucus participation and voting is open to all Democrats registered in the 6th Middlesex District as of October 18, 2006. The district includes Framingham Precincts 1-7, 9, 13, 14 & 17.

Registration for Democratic voters begins at 4:30 PM on Sunday and officially closes at 5:00 PM.

The event will feature the distribution of issues questionnaires filled out by the candidates as well as opening and closing statements and a question and answer session with all candidates before voting begins. All eligible Democrats are urged to attend.
