FLAG DAY WEEKEND IS SHAPING UP

Vendors and volunteers wanted for an historic weekend

May 01, 2008  (22:15:35 EST)

FRAMINGHAM, MA -- Flag Day 2008 will be on Saturday June 14th and Sunday June 15th at Cushing Memorial Park. The Flag Day Committee is currently planning this event and would like any interested individuals and/or groups that would like to participate to contact us.

This year we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's famous Civil War era "House Divided" speech. To commemorate this anniversary we are planning to host a contingent of Civil War reenactors from representing both the Union and Confederate sides. These groups will be camping out at Cushing Park and doing demonstrations, holding a dance and performing what we are calling "The Battle of Farm Pond" which will be a coordinated Civil War battle reenactment.

The Flag Day component of the event will be on Saturday, June 14th (rain date, Sunday June 15th) and will include a Flea Market, Car/Jeep Show, Music, Food & Fun Games for the kids. The Civil War commemoration component will include a battle scene on Saturday and a full battle reenactment on Sunday, June 15th, both at 1pm. This is a huge opportunity for the community, its citizens and civic groups to shine!

Please let Doug Freeman know if you are interested in helping support, promote or assist with this event. The Flag Day Committee holds regular monthly meetings and welcomes new members. Also contact Doug for information about vendor tables at 508-596-9351 cell or freeman_doug@yahoo.com.
