Exhibit: ''History in the Stitches: Framingham Fashion through the Centuries''
October 28th through April 29, 2017 -- Wednesdays – Saturdays 1:00-4:00p.m. --- Set against a backdrop of Framingham images and artifacts, this exhibit features fashions that will both please the eye and illuminate the lives of some very special Framingham women. We've chosen pieces that reflect the social mores, economic status and the personalities behind the ever-present decision we all face daily - what to wear? Did you know that you can read clothing like any other historical document? It's simply a matter of understanding the language. We'll illustrate this language as you compare the ethereal wedding dress worn by Anna Foster Haven in 1824 with the austere gown worn by the devout Mrs. Temple on her wedding day in 1772. We've set the stage for you to experience the intimate setting of an 1880s salon where Framingham women entertained their closest friends adhering to the international trends that dictated appropriate dress and decor. Experience the Roaring Twenties by reading an Art Deco inspired dress worn by a very independent local actress and theatre director.Location: Edgell Memorial Building – 3 Oak Street, Framingham, MAParking: Please park on 3 Oak St. (street parking available) or in the Village Hall lot (2 Oak St.)Hours: 1:00-4:00 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, October 28, 2016 – April 29, 2017Admission: Free for FHC Members, $5 for Non-Members, $2 per FSU ID.
