All guests are invited to stay and view the exhibition. We knew Edna Dean Proctor was a local poetess during the Civil War era, but since we chose her 1870s tea gown for our exhibit we decided to do more digging. Libby is not able to join us for a live presentation on this day however, and Access Framingham has recorded her for our viewing. Members $5; Non-members $10. Space is limited; Reservations required.

''Roman Holiday'' Screening A Grand Tour Spring Film Series
6:30pm-8:30pm(Dir., William Wyler, 1953)In this romantic comedy, a young Princess Ann escapes her dull political duties for a day of sightseeing in Rome with an American journalist who hides his real agenda. Transformed by the city and his company, she faces uncertainty about the confines of her royal role. Starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. The Davis spring film series considers the "Grand Tour" -- a rite of passage for young aristocrats (men, and some women) coming of cultural age from the mid-17th through the mid-19th century. The Grand Tour itinerary linked passion for touristic adventure to the cultural legacies of classical antiquity and the Renaissance, informed tastes in art and collecting, and reinforced notions of class status and empire. These four films vary in source material, genre, and time period, from modern psychological horror to classic romantic comedy, yet have one thing in common -- a life-changing visit to Italy, though perhaps not as "grand" as expected.Generously supported by the Davis Museum Film Program Gift.

What Shall We Do With Our Daughters? A Lecture on Mary Ashton Rice Livermore
Presented by Joan Grassey-Spinazola and the Framingham History Center. Mary Livermore was one of the most fascinating women of the 19th century and yet she is practically unknown today. As a suffragist, abolitionist, and co-director of the U.S. Sanitary Commission in Chicago during the Civil War, she travelled across the country giving thousands of inspirational speeches and raising serious money for her various causes. Known as "Queen of the Platform," she delivered her most famous lecture "What Shall We Do with Our Daughters?" over 800 times. This speech focused on the health of women and girls and blamed the fashions of the day as the cause of many problems. Framingham's Joan Grassey-Spinazola, a former stand-up comedian who spent years travelling a different kind of circuit, will tell us more about this charismatic woman and her fame. Joan serves on the FHC Program Committee and given visitors' fascination with the corsets on display in our History in the Stitches exhibition, she thought we should hear from Mary Livermore!Tickets are $5/FHC members, $10/non-members and can be purchased at the door. Questions? Call 508-626-9091 or e-mail laura@framinghamhistory.org.
