Heritage Chorale Invites New Singers
From Bach to… Bluegrass? The Heritage Chorale is shaking things up this year. The group that brought you Bach and the Messiah last year has arranged an unusual collaboration with ... a Bluegrass band! The adult community chorus, under the direction of John Finney, has changed its usual schedule. In December they will present a family concert of popular Christmas and other seasonal music, complete with sing-a-longs. In May of 2015, the Chorale has contracted with the nationally acclaimed group Monroe Crossing for a performance of American folk songs, spirituals, and Bluegrass instrumentals, along with a Bluegrass Mass. "The World Beloved" (composed for Monroe Crossing) shows how well a classical choral sound and a sparkling Bluegrass accompaniment can complement each other. To end the season, the group is planning a May Pops Concert of songs that have won Oscar, Tony and Grammy awards, including such blockbusters as Broadway's "The Lion King", "Jersey Boys", and Disney's animated movie phenomenon, "Frozen". Any singers, high school age and up, interested in joining Heritage Chorale for this season should attend one of the open rehearsals on Tuesday, September 2nd or 9th at 7:30pm, at the First Parrish Universalist Church, 24 Vernon St, in Framingham Center. Visit heritagechorale.org or call 508-270-3999 for more info.

Wednesday, September 24, 12:30 *** Join photographer Sarah Pollman for a discussion of her work exhibited in "Aura/Ground," which focuses on two of her projects -- separated by shifts in philosophy and technique, but united in close observation of the tenuous relationship between the past and present, and the meaning we seek in identity. The spectral and uncanny are evidenced in Pollman's nightscapes -- figures hover on stairs and outside of houses, and the past is forced into the present with solemn monumentality in her depictions of grave markers. Included in museum admission. *** Danforth Art, 123 Union Avenue, Framingham, MA 01702, phone: 508-620-0050.

Artist Talk: Brian Kaplan (at Danforth Art)
Sunday, September 28, 3:00 *** Join photographer Brian Kaplan to discuss works featured in the exhibition "Not Your Vacation." Brian Kaplan's work is part of an extensive project documenting Cape Cod in the off-season. Kaplan's stark views of shuttered motels and abandoned tourist traps challenge the often nostalgic and idealized depictions of this popular vacation destination. Cleared of summer's out-of-towners, the Cape Cod of winter as depicted in Kaplan's unapologetic photographs feels like a desolate ghost town; piles of televisions, discarded fireworks, even a melted ice cream cone speak to the transient nature of leisure time and isolation that remains after the fleeting summer. Included in museum admission. *** Danforth Art, 123 Union Avenue, Framingham, MA 01702, phone: 508-620-0050.
