Athena Award Luncheon (at Framingham Country Club)
On Thursday March 8, 2018, the United Way of Tri-County will celebrate International Women's Day by honoring a local leader with the Athena Leadership Award. The award will be presented to a leader in the MetroWest/495 region who is committed to excellence in their profession, but also serving their local community and mentoring the next generation of women leaders. The award will be presented at a luncheon at the Framingham Country Club, and Marcy Reed, Chief of Business Operations for National Grid in the U.S. will be the keynote speaker.Join us as we recognize the hard work and dedication of one of our many local leaders and mentors in the community! Green Framingham United 2.0
On Saturday March 10th, 2018 Transition Framingham along with many other organizations will co-host Green Framingham United 2.0. The event will be held at First Parish Church (24 Vernon St.) and will run from 1:30pm to 5pm.During this event we will use a facilitation methodology called Open Space Technology to have a large group brainstorm bigger ways that we can all work together to make Framingham more sustainable and resilient.Is there a project that you have dreamed up that is too big for you to take on alone?Do you have a great idea but you need help with specific skills to bring it to life?Maybe you just want to come hear what other people's ideas or share your wisdom.After the brainstorm each person will vote on their favorite ideas and the ones with the most votes will be awarded break out sessions to go deeper into the viability of the idea. After the breakout sessions we will get back together to hear reports from the sessions. We will create working groups for ideas that have sufficient viability and momentum with the goal of making Framingham a greener place to live, work and play.

10am to 3pm at the Library, 49 Lexington Street, Framingham. It's a 2-day sale this month! If you can't make it on Saturday, stop by from 1-4 pm on Sunday, March 18. On both days, music CDs in the bookroom are Buy One/Get One for $1. And in the lobby, current hardcover fiction is just $2. There are thousands of books in stock. Most are $1, children's books start at 25 cents. Proceeds from the sale support Library programs.

Perennial Color Spring through the Fall, A Journey Through the Growing Season
Journey through the growing season with a dazzling display of the hottest new perennials and the tried and true favorites at 7 pm on Wednesday, March 21 at the McAuliffe Library, 746 Water Street, Framingham. Hear famed garden writer and speaker, Suzanne Mahler discuss Perennial Color Spring through the Fall, A Journey Through the Growing Season. This lively program is sponsored by the Framingham Garden Club. Seating is limited to 50. Ms. Mahler is an avid gardener, horticulturalist and photographer. She writes a weekly gardening column, "Green Thumbs Up!" and grows extensive collections of perennials, including more than five hundred daylily cultivars and over two hundred varieties of hostas. She has been past president of the New England Daylily Society and is a member of two local garden clubs, and an overseer for Massachusetts Horticultural Society. Among many other accomplishments, her garden is designated as a National Display Garden for the American Daylily Society.

Erica Leigh is an ASCAP & SESAC award-winning songwriter hailing from Boston, MA. Her fans describe her as Paula Cole meets Sara Bareilles, with a soulful voice and powerful storytelling ability. Opening is Kim Moberg! Kim's musical inspiration derives from both traditional and contemporary musical genres of acoustic, roots, folk and country. She strives to sing stories that evoke contemplation and emotion. A self, taught finger pick style acoustic guitarist, Kim has an intros​pective interp​retati​on of songs and is especially drawn to musical stories that tug at feelings of melancholy, heartbreak, and healing.
