Flamenco Fundraiser for Nourishing Teacher's Program at Hoops & Homework
Please join us at Open Spirit for a fundraiser featuring flamenco music and dance by ¡Ole Flamenco! in support of Open Spirit's Nourishing Teachers/Strengthening Classrooms Project's work at Hoops & Homework. This promises to be an entertaining afternoon of dance and live music for the entire family. The Nourishing Teachers/Strengthening Classrooms Project is a community outreach program that supports both teachers and students in mindfulness practices and mind/body awareness. Hoops & Homework offers academic and enrichment services to at-risk youth living in and around the Beaver and Waverly Street areas of Framingham.Eve Costarelli, a professional flamenco dancer and yoga instructor, who works directly with the students at Hoops & Homework, will be the featured performer. Guatemalan Artisans To Be Featured in Library Foundation Fashion Show
Fashions, jewelry and accessories from Under the Same Moon, a foundation promoting the work of Guatemalan artisans, will be featured at the Framingham Public Library Foundation's spring fashion show and afternoon tea, on Sunday, May 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the main library's Costin Room. Petite sandwiches, desserts and refreshments with a Guatemalan flair will be served. Tax-deductible tickets are $25 and available at both the main library and the Christa McAuliffe branch library. Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, this psychological thriller matches Tom Ripley's passions to the dramatic landscapes of Italy's great tourist destinations.The Davis spring film series considers the "Grand Tour" -- a rite of passage for young aristocrats (men, and some women) coming of cultural age from the mid-17th through the mid-19th century. The Grand Tour itinerary linked passion for touristic adventure to the cultural legacies of classical antiquity and the Renaissance, informed tastes in art and collecting, and reinforced notions of class status and empire. An exciting concert experience in Framingham. Join Heritage Chorale, Maestro John Finney, full orchestra, and professional soloists (featuring Philip Lima as Elijah), for the biblical story of the fiery prophet, sung in the English setting by Mendelssohn himself. Soloists sing the words of the characters (King Ahab, Queen Jezebel, and more) and the chorus narrates and sings the parts of large groups such as the followers of the demon god Baal. Elijah brings drought to the land, challenges the Baal worshipers to a competition of the gods,is chased by an angry mob and finally goes to heaven in a fiery chariot. Panelists Rev. Dr. Debbie Clark, Rabbi Katy Allen, Nicci Meadow, E. Join the Framingham History Center for a tour of the following sites:--A 1749 gambrel fashioned after the Wayside Inn and owned by Henry Ford from 1932-1947--An artfully restored shingle-style bungalow in the Salem End Rd. neighborhood--A stately stone Italianate mansion built by an iron dealer who was one of Massachusetts' richest men in 1851--A mid-century modern ranch refurbished by its master craftsman owner in a country setting--A charming cape-style cottage, that was once a stable for a nearby mansion, infused with the owner's art--Don't miss refreshments at a stunning new office space in a former Saxonville Mill warehouse with cutting-edge design incorporating the mill's history.How a House Tour works: This is a self-guided tour. The ticket holder receives the House Tour Booklet at the Framingham High School parking lot (115 A St, Framingham), which acts as your ticket, and it lists the homes on the tour with historical descriptions. Once the ticket holder has the booklet, he/she is free to visit the homes at their own pace between 12 and 5pm. Ticket holders must use their own mode of transportation to reach the designated homes.
