Poetry Workshop
7:00pm--This drop-in class welcomes serious poets of all ages and levels of experience who would like to participate for one or more sessions. Generally, each session will begin with a discussion of a topic in poetry leading to a brief in-class assignment. Poets who wish to have their work discussed need to provide copies to distribute during the session. Alan Feldman is a professor emeritus at Framingham State University, a published poet, and for 22 years, taught the advanced creative writing course at Harvard's Radcliffe Seminars. This is the story of the USS Quincy, an American heavy cruiser built in, and named after, the city of Quincy. Once World War II hostilities commenced in 1941, the Quincy was assigned to the Atlantic until mid 1942 when she joined the Pacific fleet for the invasion of Guadalcanal. On the night of August 9th, she was engaged in a fierce night battle with a Japanese surface force. Quincy suffered severe damage and sank along with three other Allied cruisers, in a devastating blow to the US navy. This is the story of the courageous men who did their very best, despite finding themselves in a desperate situation. Refreshments by Trader Joe's.
